Phoenix by the numbers: a baseline for local coverage

Phoenix, Arizona: 1,665,481 residents in the Census Bureau’s July 2025 estimate.

A city population figure is a useful starting point for reporting, but it does not tell the whole story of a neighborhood. Residents may experience the same city very differently depending on their daily routes, the services they use and the public spaces available nearby.

Our coverage will use citywide data as context and seek local records before drawing conclusions about a specific project. A population total alone cannot establish whether a road needs widening, a school is overcrowded or a new facility is justified. Those questions deserve their own evidence.

For readers comparing figures, keep the geographic area and reference date together. A municipal estimate should not be substituted for a metropolitan-area total or presented as a live count. This historical baseline is one tool for asking better questions about what comes next.
